Our Mission

Our mission is to cultivate a skilled workforce in the Tourism and Hospitality sector through strategic initiatives, including the establishment of National Occupational Standards, implementation of a comprehensive Labor Market Information System, partnerships with training institutions, certification of expert trainers, and streamlined learner assessments and certifications, empowering individuals for success in the industry.

Roles

The Tourism and Hospitality Industry Skills Councils (ISCs) serve as vital conduits between industry and skills training programs (STPs). Their role encompasses various key functions:

Facilitating industry-STP linkages to ensure training programs meet industry needs.
Identifying occupations in demand and contributing to competency standards and curriculum development.
Forecasting industry’s skill requirements to inform training initiatives.
Conducting periodic skill-gap analyses to guide re-skilling and up-skilling efforts.
Supporting expansion of apprenticeships and fostering public-private partnerships in skills development.
Ensuring ISCs operate effectively through the development and implementation of operational guidelines. Through these endeavors, ISCs play a pivotal role in enhancing the employability of skills graduates, fostering industry participation in skills development, and ultimately driving the growth and sustainability of the tourism and hospitality sector.

Mandate

THE MANDATE OF THE TOURISM AND HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY SKILLS COUNCILS INCLUDES:

Developing and updating a National Qualification Framework (NQF) tailored to the sector's needs.
Crafting and implementing competency-based training modules and assessments.
Partnering with accredited training providers to deliver industry-relevant programs.
Establishing and managing a national skills certification scheme to validate industry skills.
